FAQs
-
IDN is a service I created when I realised I could help homeowners get through their home design without a lengthy, formal and expensive design service while still providing them the design and support they need to create a warm and welcoming home.
It’s here to bring the gap from high end expensive design firms and low cost online room designs or in store design help.
You get 2-3 room layouts to consider, design options, design visuals, a step-by-step plan on how to implement your design, a styling session, and as much access to me as you need during the design implementation process.
-
This is one of my favourite questions…I love being able to reuse some of what you have (or suggest another room that your existing items could go into). This is a great way to save money, time and the environment.
And at the end of the day, it’s up to you if you want to purchase all new furniture or if you want to work with what you have and make it better with the help of a professional.
-
IDN is packed full of easy ways to approach home design. Most people think they have a creative problem but they actually have a planning problem. I get you to follow a proven method for designing your homes as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The Interior Design Navigator programme allows us both to think, discuss, connect, and create a step-by-step plan to designing your home that might normally take years to just a few short months.
-
Once you sign up for IDN, you will get an email to book your first call with me! I recommend you go through a 30 minute module to create what I call your ‘Home Design Roadmap’ and then we’ll work together to create your unique home design process.
From there, you work through short video modules to get us the information we need to space plan and help design your rooms. You can start designing with me within days of signing up!
Our small team is very efficient and once you book your calls we block time on our calendar to work on your design. This way, you’re not waiting for me to finish up other projects or visit with new clients…we block off your design time right away.
Occasionally a time slot you need will be booked. When that happens, we do our best to open up something that will work for you OR if members of our team are on holiday we’ll communicate that to you well in advance!
-
Over the last 4 years, we found that working on too many rooms at once can lead to rushing through decisions or no decisions at all…even when an interior designer is holding your hand.
Therefore we recommend working through one room at a time unless they open up to each other (like a kitchen/dining/living room area) in which case we’d work on all 3 areas at once for a cohesive look and feel.
And we walk you through this process in the programme.
-
This programme isn’t about doing additional tasks on top of what you're already doing for your home design. It’s about showing how to replace your current actions with better actions. I’ve structured the modules to go with a busy schedule, so if you're like me and juggling a family, job and home design, the programme I created will actually save you time by keeping you focused and accountable. With that said, it really depends on how big your home is, which rooms you are working through, and how much experience you’ve had with home design.
You will see in the programme that I recommend working through one room at a time to get a sense for how you will start and finish each room.
Each module is 30 minutes or less and there are 6 in total with bonus modules that are there to help (like extra renovation tips or design rules should you need them)
You also will work with me for two 45 minute calls per room.
The time it will take you to implement the room design we come up with varies. It depends on much you have to do with your room design but I’ve had clients implement their design the SAME day they get confidence and clarity on what they need to do to create it.
AND I’m always at the end of Zoom call to help speed things along.
-
A lot actually. You will have the opportunity to book an initial ‘onboarding’ call with me so I can welcome you into the programme and walk you through your entire home design process. Then you will have the option to book two 1-to-1 calls with me per room. The first one to work through space planning options for your room and the other to review and add to your design choices.
ALSO, you have the option to join live Q&A sessions each week. You do not need to be on these to have success in the programme. They are available as and when you have questions or looking for a bit of extra help.
Finally, you get access to my calendar to book 10 minute check-ins as needed.
-
Most of my clients aren’t sure what they need to spend to make their home feel warm and welcoming. And it’s tricky, right? I’ve designed bespoke sofas for clients that cost £10k and I’ve sourced sofas from Ikea and added a ‘Bemz’ cover for less than £2k.
I also don’t know if you need new flooring or curtains or already some furnishings in place. So again, it’s really tricky to say you need X amount to create a beautiful home.
What I can say is -
If you have a firm, set budget (which some of my clients have), we have a spreadsheet to keep track of our spending during the design development phase and can adjust costs before the design gets finished.
If you just want to see what everything costs, you can still use our spreadsheet and then adjust once the design is done and all the numbers are added up. It may be that you’re happy spending that amount and it may be that you need to swap out a few items to get the costs down.
Finally, many of my clients will work with me on creating their room designs and then they chip away at the purchases over a 3, 6, 9, or 12 month period. And that works well too because instead of worrying about when and what you are going to design your home with…you have a design plan to slowly implement as funds become available.
-
I work virtually all over the UK and occasionally in America. Nearly ALL of my client results are from projects where I never stepped foot in the house. The before/afters you see of my clients homes are either local to me so I can photograph the rooms in person OR photos sent to me from my clients.
I have an easy-to-follow process to make sure you get me everything I need to properly design your space. And no worries if you don't know how to measure a room…I have 4 simple ways to do it and one even involves using an app on your iphone (super easy!).
-
We will open up our IDN programme 1-2 times per year depending on our availability to run it. Once I open up spaces in our programme, we remain fully booked for months AND then some of those clients end up purchasing additional time or services for other areas of their home so it just depends.
-
Yes, and I would recommend this. Once you sign up, you get full access to our programme but your subscription time period doesn’t start until you book your first 1-to-1 onboarding call with me.
-
Shall I just leave you with a few quotes from my clients?
“It was really useful because she was able to pull things out and show me pictures and say ‘is this the kind of thing you like’’ and it helped me to work out what my style was because to be honest I wasn’t very clear on exactly what I wanted but once we started talking it really helped and Carrie was able to pick that out for me.” - Bernie M
“Before working with you, I was clueless about what style and design I liked. I was spending a lot of time browsing online and in stores and seeing things I like but it didn’t really come together.” - Alyssa P
“I’m starting to see what my style is as before I wasn’t quite sure.” - Hannah M
“I put some of my things that I really liked on Pinterest so Carrie could see my style and she had literally nailed it within the first suggestion and the first drawings.” - Heather M
-
I’ve been focusing on this type of service (done WITH you) for over 4 years and spent 6 years before in America studying and working in interior design.
-
Yes! You can pay for your 3, 6 or 12 month plan in full and save ££ or you can pay monthly during your subscription period.
-
Because everyone’s needs are slightly different I don’t list out prices and hope you choose the right option… I did this when I started my business and I realised people don’t always know what they are buying or reading…especially when it comes to what’s included in an interior design package or service.
So now I speak to anyone interested in working with me on a quick Zoom call (completely free) OR make sure you’ve been on one of my live Q&A sessions.
On the call/Q&A sessions, I help you as much as I can during our time together and IF you feel like you want more of my help, we can talk through the pricing for your specific design needs.
We offer access to me for either a 3, 6 or 12 month period. I’ll help you figure out the best option should you want to move forward.
-
If you work through the programme and book your space planning and design calls with me and still don’t like your results, I will personally design with you until you do!
That’s my satisfaction guarantee (see below).
-
I’ll be hosting a live Q&A session on May 24th at 7pm. My calendar opens up on the evening of May 25th at 1pm and I’ll be available ALL day on May 25th and May 26 to chat if you have any questions.
-
Yep! See below.
-
Once my calendar opens for booked calls, it will be first come, first ‘booked’. Keep an eye out on May 25th to book a timeslot with me.
-
I mentioned this above but this is a tricky one to answer because I don’t know how much you need and what you are comfortable spending. I’ve had clients update a living room with mostly new furnishings for £5K and I’ve had clients that have completely remodelled a living room top to bottom for £50K.
But I can help you on our initial chat together since I’ll know a bit more about what you’re looking to do and how much you want to spend.
-
Yep! Anytime you need it.
-
I mentioned this above and I’ve had clients that implement their design the same day they get it and I’ve had clients that chip away at their design and come back to me 1 year later to help with styling and finishing the room.
On average, with busy schedules, coordinating trades, and waiting for samples to arrive…I would say most of my clients are well underway within 3-4 weeks of working with me on their room design. And then it’s just a matter of repeating this process for every room you want my help with! BTW, you get faster at this as you work your way through your home:)

Say you've decided to move into a new house and want it to look better than your last one: how much would it be worth to have access to the experience of someone who's been successfully doing exactly that for years? And even get their expert opinion on ideas you're considering spending money on BEFORE you spend it?
If it helps you avoid expensive mistakes and make faster progress, it could easily be worth tens of thousands of pounds over your lifetime. So the cost of a design service might sound like a lot, but it could be the best investment you ever make.
You'd be surprised, though, just how much you can get for free. Rather than spending a chunk of your furniture funds on the first person you come across, which I realise might be me! Spend some time looking around and see what kind of information you can get for free.
Most people are very willing to help, even if they're getting nothing in return – myself included!
As long as you're clearly committed to taking action and actually using the information you're asking for.

When I studied interior design at university, we never went to someone’s house to get a ‘feel’ for it before we started designing. We just got some room measurements, photos and a design brief.
Fast forward to when I started my business in the UK, my first clients were all in America. Did I fly back to see their homes? Nope, but I did perfect my system for getting the information I need to confidently create designs.
What about covid when we couldn’t go into people’s homes? Not only did I get better at working remotely, people that were initially skeptical were like ‘oh yea, I CAN do this remotely’.
Working all over the UK for the last 4 years has given me a huge network of clients, designers, kitchen suppliers, bathroom fitters, etc…so even though I may not be local to you I probably have another designer or tradesperson that I can ask for recommendations and referrals to help you with your home design.
Finally, I work remotely even with my Edinburgh clients unless they want to pay extra to have me visit in person (which I discourage as I want them to save their money for the design:). I don’t even see the rooms I design until I show up to take a few photographs for my portfolio.
So you might think I need to get a feel for your space but this is how I’ve been working for YEARS. I know exactly how to get the information I need to design your perfect home.
If you go through the entire programme, book your 1:1 calls with me, implement the design and you’re not happy, I will personally design with you until you are! This guarantee is available for 90 days after you book in with us.
